FLO-BERT is dedicated to preserving, supporting, showcasing and educating the public about the great American Art Form, Tap Dance. Annually, we present "TapEx", a production which features today's great tap dancers and their choreography / improvography, innovation, and honors those who have contributed to the life, history, preservation and expansion of Tap Dance and the Jazz Arts. This year "TapEx 2025", will present our 35th Anniversary show, live at The Theater for the New City. Announcing our 2025 Honorees Tap Dancer, Choreographer, MacArthur Grant Recipients Michelle Dorrance and Jared Grimes.

We're kicking off the festivities with an open-level tap class. Celebrate the art of tap with live performances, an electric tap jam, and music by the Andrew Atkinson Trio Band. Rooted in expressions of selfhood, culture, and legacy, Ayodele Casel pushes tap forward while holding reverence for her predecessors and the African American roots of the form. Directed by long-time collaborator Torya Beard, this new work examines the transformative ties between tap dance and the dynamism of 90s Hip-Hop music.

Helmed by director Amy Marie Seidel (Here There Are Blueberries, The Great Gatsby), this reimagined production amplifies the mechanical rhythm and expressionism in Sophie Treadwell’s text through a dynamic underscoring of tap dance, practical foley, and heightened movement vocabulary created by choreographer Madison Hilligoss.
